01What Trenchless Sewer Repair Actually Is

Not long ago, fixing a broken sewer line meant one thing: digging a trench through your yard, your driveway, and sometimes your foundation just to reach the pipe. Trenchless sewer repair changed that. Instead of excavating the entire line, we access your sewer through one or two small entry points and repair the pipe from the inside.

Method 1

Pipe Lining (CIPP)

A resin-coated liner is inserted into your existing pipe. Once cured, it hardens into a brand new pipe inside the old one, sealing cracks, root intrusions, and corrosion in a single pass.

Method 2

Pipe Bursting

Used when the original line is too damaged to line. A new pipe is pulled through the old one, breaking apart the failed pipe as it goes and replacing it in the same path.

Both methods restore full function to your sewer line without tearing up the property above it. For most Los Angeles homes, the entire job is done in one to two days, and your landscaping, hardscape, and driveway stay exactly as they were.

02Why Trenchless Makes Sense for Los Angeles Homes

Los Angeles has a unique combination of factors that make trenchless repair especially valuable here. A huge share of homes in neighborhoods like Highland Park, Sherman Oaks, Long Beach, and Pasadena were built between the 1920s and 1960s, when sewer lines were made of clay or cast iron. Those materials have a service life of roughly 50 to 75 years, which means much of the city's original sewer infrastructure is past due. Add in mature tree roots, shifting soil, and decades of ground movement, and you get the cracked and root invaded lines we see every week.

Traditional excavation in LA also carries costs that go beyond the plumbing. Mature landscaping, custom hardscape, stamped concrete driveways, and tight lot lines mean that digging a trench often destroys more value than the pipe repair itself. Restoring a driveway or a garden after open trench work can add thousands of dollars and weeks of disruption. Trenchless repair avoids nearly all of it.

There is also the question of permits and city requirements. Sewer work in Los Angeles requires proper permitting and inspection, and in many cases a sewer lateral must meet current code before certain property transactions. A licensed plumbing contractor who works with these requirements daily can handle the paperwork, schedule the inspections, and make sure the finished work passes the first time.

03How a Professional Trenchless Job Should Go

A trenchless repair is only as good as the diagnosis behind it, which is why every job should start with a sewer camera inspection. The camera travels the full length of your line and shows exactly what is happening underground: where the damage is, what caused it, and whether the pipe is a candidate for lining or needs bursting. You should be able to see this footage yourself. If a contractor recommends a repair without showing you the inside of your own pipe, that is a red flag.

Step 1 — Clean

The line is cleaned, usually with hydro jetting, so the liner bonds properly or the bursting head travels cleanly.

Step 2 — Repair

The repair is completed through the access points — lining or bursting, typically in a single day.

Step 3 — Verify

A final camera pass confirms the new pipe is smooth, sealed, and flowing at full capacity. You get before and after footage.

The result is a new pipe rated to last 50 years or more, installed in a fraction of the time of traditional replacement, with your property left the way we found it. That is the standard every homeowner in Los Angeles should expect, and it is the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Most residential trenchless repairs in the LA area fall somewhere between $80 and $250 per foot depending on pipe depth, length, access, and whether the job calls for lining or bursting. That sounds like a wide range because it is, and any company that quotes you a firm price over the phone without a camera inspection is guessing. We start with an inspection, show you the footage, and give you a flat written price before any work begins. In most cases trenchless ends up costing less than traditional excavation once you factor in the cost of restoring driveways, landscaping, and hardscape.
